Flametree
“Flametree was created so we could share our joy in music and music-making with everyone – both those who may know the works and composers well and those who are just discovering them. We hope there will always be something new to experience, alongside the joy of old favourites.”
Flametree is a trio formed by Nicole Thomson soprano, Jenny Duck-Chong mezzo-soprano and Jo Allan piano in 2012. Passionately committed to the presentation of appealing recitals in intimate settings, Flametree presents entertaining programs of art song and duets, woven together with informative and engaging conversations. Drawn from their deep collective knowledge of the genre (and their desire to continue to discover more) they curate programs designed to encompass a wealth of repertoire inspired by theme or place. Programs, sometimes containing works spanning several centuries, have included A Bouquet of Songs (focusing on seasonal and floral songs), The Exquisite Hour (on night songs) and Close to Home (the first in a series of programs, presented in conjunction with the AASR, focused on Australian art song).
Alongside public performances, they are also available for private house concert bookings.
FEEDBACK
“Jenny, Nicole and Jo are three of Australia’s finest musicians. Every performance of theirs I walk out ‘buzzing’, uplifted, sometimes challenged, but always happy. I can’t wait to see them perform again.”
- Cathy Aggett, facebook review, 2019
“superb musicianship and a deep musical connection”
“Imaginative programming was evident throughout the afternoon, a result of the trio’s separate and combined experience as performers and artists. They bring a dedication and generosity to their craft which includes a deep respect for composer, poet and individual interpretation.“
- Jo Burton, review, 2019
